Since 1991, the City Lights Project has been taking dark alleys and turning them into galleries.
An independent, not-for-profit organization intended to combat the ubiquitous glare of advertising, Hosier Lane is where you’ll find the lightboxes have been installed along the laneway wall.
The cobblestoned lane features twelve streetside boxes illuminating the works of local and international up-and-coming artists. Open all day every day; rain, hail or shine; come nighttime and the installations emit a tranquil, ethereal glow.
Well worth a laneway wander late at night, City Lights has certainly put Melbourne’s street art on the map.
