Cunningham Dax Collection

In 1946, Dr Eric Cunningham Dax pioneered the use of art programs as part of mainstream psychiatric treatment, finding it not only therapeutic for patients but helpful in dispelling some of the prevailing community prejudices about mental illness.

Today, the Cunningham Dax Collection consists of over 10,000 pieces by people with experience of psychological illness/trauma, created in both clinical and nonclinical settings.

Although patient art can provide insight into specific conditions, the Collection invites viewers to look at the works as more than just medical records but to appreciate their creative intent and merit.
