For 16 days of the year Melbourne becomes the international food capital of the world during The Melbourne Food and Wine festival.
The wine and food festival is touted to be the largest of its kind in the world.
Food and wine devotees including chefs, winemakers, growers, purveyors authors, food and wine commentators and critics, from across the globe flock to Melbourne for the festival.
Last but not least the Australian public get to revel in the delights of fine Victorian food and wines. The Melbourne Food and Wine festival embraces over 100 of the city's restaurants who participate in the event. As well as sampling the many dishes and drinks on offer, visitors can shop at a huge food market, participate in cookery master classes and chat with world-famous chefs and restaurant owners.
The food festival attracts a mix of restauranteurs, industry buyers and sellers, chefs, sommeliers and food and drink lovers from all over the world.
In 2009, Ferran Adna the legendary chef of elBulli -the restaurant consistently voted best in the world- gave a special presentation to launch his book, A Day at elBulli: an insight into the ideas, methods and creativity of Ferran Adria.
In 2008, The World's Longest Lunch featured 1270 people seated along Flemingtons home straight for a delectable 3- course lunch.
The Connex Sizzle celebrates Australia's national icon the good old-fashioned BBQ in a giant backyard on a grassy green lawn in Federation Square with sizzling dishes prepared and demonstrated by Melbourne's leading chefs.
At the Cellar Door more than 60 of Victoria's boutique wineries offer tastings. Guests savour familiar drops, discover new favourites and travel the best of Victoria's wine country on foot - in one single day. In the Stars Of Europe event, Europe comes to Melbourne for one special Saturday night of glamour and spectacle. Diners get to savour culinary wonders from the globe's most acclaimed chefs.
